Why Candle Care Matters
Taking care of your candle ensures a cleaner burn, stronger fragrance, and longer-lasting enjoyment. Poor candle habits can lead to tunnelling, soot, uneven burning, and wasted wax.
Before You Light
- Give it some time - our large bespoke candles are in majority made to order and although we give them full 2 weeks to set, we advise to give it anther 5 for full fragrance experience, if you choose to light them
- Read the full candle care advice - we know its boring, but we care about your experice and your safety, and that's why we put this guide together for you
- Trim the wick to around 5–7 mm before every burn to prevent smoking and large flames.
- Place on a heat‑resistant surface to protect furniture and ensure stability.
- Keep away from drafts such as windows, vents, and fans for an even burn.
- Remove all packaging, lids, or decorative elements before lighting.
The First Burn
The first burn sets the “memory” of your candle. This prevents tunnelling and ensures an even burn every time.
- Allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the container
- Burn for approximately 2–4 hours, depending on size, and no longer than that.
- If the wax has not melted all the way to the edges, repeat on second burn.
While Burning
- Never leave a candle unattended
- Keep away from children, pets, and flammable materials
- Do not burn for more than 3–4 hours at a time
- Keep the wax pool free from debris such as wick trimmings or matches
- Space multiple candles at least 10 cm apart
Wick Care
Proper wick care ensures a steady flame, reduces soot, and improves burn performance.
- Trim wick before every burn
- Remove any “mushrooming” or carbon build-up
- Keep wick centred after each use
- Do not trim too short, this may drown the wick and the candle will not burn to the end
Extinguishing Your Candle
- Use a snuffer where possible to avoid smoke and splatter
- Allow wax to cool completely before relighting or moving
- Avoid using water / saliva to extinguish
- If you're blowing the candle out, make sure the wick is fully extinguished before leaving the candle unattended
When to Stop Burning
- Stop using your candle when around 1 cm of wax remains.
- This prevents overheating and potential damage / bursting of the container.
- You can then gently scoop up the warmed up wax, clean the container with soapy water, dry and reuse as a pot or purchase a refill.
Storage Tips
- Store candles in a cool, dry place away from sunlight to avid the wax melting and the candle oils sweating
- Keep covered or in a container to preserve fragrance
- Avoid extreme temperature changes
Safety Reminder
Candles are an open flame. Always:
- Burn within sight
- Keep away from anything flammable
- Never move a lit candle
- Use in a well‑ventilated area
- Do not go over prescribed burn time
Tips for the Best Experience
Our candles are made in decorative vessels, from glass , stone / concrete or Jesmonite. They are intended for aesthetic and functional purposes, howewer as with every candle, the use, burning and melting wax will affect the aesthetic look of the vessels.
- Burn long enough each time to achieve a full melt pool
- Avoid short burns (this causes tunnelling)
- Keep candles out of draughts and large areas for a stronger scent throw
- Trim the wick regularly for a cleaner burn
